Summer on Sunnbüel – the essentials In summer, Sunnbüel shows its peaceful, expansive side. At an altitude of around 2,000 meters, Swiss stone pine forests, crystal-clear Swiss stone pine lakes, and scenic trails invite you to take a deep breath, get out and about, and pause for a moment. Far away from the large tourist crowds, you will find genuine mountain moments here – authentic, close to nature, and relaxing. Whether it's leisurely circular and themed trails, the Godi & Kari family and children's hiking trail, the historic Gemmipass hike, or sporting experiences such as trail running, climbing, or the freeride trail towards Kandersteg: Sunnbüel offers variety in an impressive mountain setting. The Sunnbüel mountain restaurant, located directly at the mountain station, is the ideal place for a pleasant break with a sun terrace and views of the mountains. Sunnbüel is also a special place for groups, family celebrations, or corporate events.

Those traveling with small children can take the cable car from Kandersteg to Sunnbüel and discover short, easy walking trails on the plateau – easy to walk on, quiet, and with plenty of space to marvel at the surroundings. Alpine flowers, wide-open landscapes, marmots (with a little luck) and an impressive panorama characterize the experience. Along the way, there is time to pause, observe and play – far away from the hustle and bustle. At the Sunnbüel mountain restaurant, a sunny terrace awaits for a relaxing break, while the little hiking fans can let off steam or enjoy something tasty. How do I get there by car?

Kandersteg is well signposted. In the village, follow the signs for Sunnbüel/Gemmi to the valley station.

How do I get from Kandersteg train station to the Sunnbüel valley station?

Take the AFA bus line 241 or walk for about 30 minutes along the signposted route.

Where is there a campground nearby?

There is a campsite in the village of Kandersteg with good infrastructure and public transport connections. There is also the Frutigresort Camping site in Frutigen.

Where can coaches and buses park?

Designated parking spaces for coaches are available at the Sunnbüel valley station. Advance booking at info@sunnbuel.ch is recommended.

Are there charging stations for electric cars?

Yes, there are four 11 kW charging stations at the Sunnbüel valley station.

How long does the cable car ride take?

The journey from the valley station to the Sunnbüel mountain station takes around 8 minutes and offers beautiful views.

From Kandersteg station, the AFA bus line 241 takes you directly to the bus stop at the Sunnbüel valley station. Bus connections are coordinated with train arrivals.
