Oeschinensee at an altitude of 1,578 meters above sea level. The time of day and weather conditions have a major influence on your chances of catching a fish. Patience and practice make perfect.

Canadian lake trout and Arctic char are mostly caught from the shore using bottom fishing with bee larvae or spin fishing.

Fishing from a boat is also successful. Fishing boats with fish boxes and anchors are available for rent.

Rainbow trout are mainly caught using a buldo or by float fishing with bee larvae as bait. Gamben fishing is also permitted. Choosing the right bait is crucial when fishing.

How do you get from the mountain station to the shore of Lake Oeschinen?

How does rowing boat rental work?

Rowboats can only be rented directly at the lake shore. A limited number are equipped with fish boxes. Please inquire directly at the sales stand near the rowboats. On weekends, during high season, and when the weather is nice, waiting times are to be expected. You can find out more on this page and on the boat rental page.

What outdoor guidelines apply in the event of rockfall?

After rainfall and significant temperature fluctuations (day/night), there is an increased risk of rockfalls, wet avalanches, debris flows, and rockfalls. Warning signs include fresh impact marks, rock deposits, and breakout points. The more exposed the path, the higher the risk. In such places, it is important to continue walking quickly. Cancellation and refunds of tickets are generally not possible. In exceptional cases, a voucher may be issued for a later visit (cable caroeschinensee). A processing fee of CHF 10 per booking may apply. Cash refunds are not possible. Please note: You can change your booking to another time slot within the current season up to three times free of charge.

Can a ticket with a boarding pass be changed to an earlier date?

Can a ticket also be purchased on site?

We recommend purchasing your ticket in advance from the ticket shop. Only a limited number of remaining tickets are available from the ticket machines on site. Please note: Mountain trips can only be booked on site if there are still places available for the desired time slot. Can dogs ride the cable car for free?

What payment methods can I use?

Are savings, tandem, community, or Friends day passes valid?

No, SBB day tickets are not valid for theOeschinensee cable car . You can get discounts with a valid GA, Half-Fare, Swiss Travel Pass, or a guest card from Kandersteg, Kandergrund, Frutigen, Adelboden, and Reichenbach.

What transport regulations apply to bicycles, SUPs, scooters, children's bikes, etc.?

Bicycles, mountain bikes, children's bikes, scooters, SUPs (stand-up paddleboards), or other sports equipment will not be transported.

Is the Bernese Oberland Pass accepted?

No, the Berner Oberland Pass will no longer be accepted from January 2026, and there will be no discount on the gondola ride.

Getting here and parking

How do I get there by train (public transport)?

You can reach Kandersteg by train from Spiez and Brig. There is a bus (AFA) to Kandersteg from Adelboden and Frutigen. The walk from the train station takes approx. 10–15 minutes. From June to October, there is a local bus service from the train station to the valley station for every train arrival/departure.

Where can I park? Is it possible to reserve a parking space?

Parking spaces cannot currently be reserved. Parking spaces in Kandersteg are limited at weekends and during the summer. From around 12 noon onwards, there may be no parking spaces available – we recommend arriving early. Parking spaces are available for guests at the valley station from 6 a.m. until the evening. Hikers heading to Oeschinensee should use the hiking parking spaces in the village (lower hiking parking rates). No vehicles are allowed to enter at night. Vehicles are limited to a maximum length of 5 meters and a maximum height of 2 meters. Paid parking spaces and parking spaces for larger vehicles are located in the village and at the Schützenhaus.
